Use Swordfish inside Claude or ChatGPT. Ask in plain language, and your assistant searches Swordfish for you. Swordfish is not yet in the Claude or ChatGPT directories, so you add it manually. It takes about 2 minutes.

What you need

Part A: ChatGPT (use chatgpt.com in a web browser)

1. Open Plugins and add a custom MCP server

In the left sidebar click Plugins, then click Add (top right) and choose Add custom MCP server.

2. Enter the Swordfish details

  • Name: Swordfish
  • Description: Find verified contact info (optional)
  • Server URL: https://swordfish.ai/mcp
  • Authentication: OAuth (already selected)

Leave Advanced OAuth settings as they are. Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin.

3. No OAuth changes needed

If you open Advanced OAuth settings, ChatGPT detects everything automatically: Registration method: Client Identifier Metadata Document (CIMD). The note "DCR is unavailable" is expected. You do not need a client ID or secret.

4. Sign in with your Swordfish account

ChatGPT sends you to swordfish.ai. Enter your work email and password (or use Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft), complete the "Verify you are human" check and click Log in. If you see an authorization screen, click Allow. You will be sent back to ChatGPT. Your password is only entered on swordfish.ai, and ChatGPT never sees it.

5. Check that it is connected

Open Settings > Plugins > Swordfish. You should see your Swordfish account under Connected accounts. "Version: dev mode" and "Review status: DEVELOPMENT" are expected for a manually added plugin.

6. Use it in a chat

Start a new chat, click + and pick Swordfish, or mention Swordfish in your message. For example:

  • "Show my Swordfish account info"
  • "Find VPs of Sales at SaaS companies with 51-200 employees in Austin, TX"

Troubleshooting

  • "Add custom MCP server" is missing: use ChatGPT in a web browser (chatgpt.com). On a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers.
  • Sign-in fails or tools return "Unauthorized": open Settings > Plugins > Swordfish, click ... next to your account to disconnect, then click Connect another account and sign in again.
  • "Safety scan: Warning" on the plugin page: this is normal for manually added plugins.
  • When the official Swordfish plugin is published in the ChatGPT directory, you can install it there and uninstall this manual one.

Part B: Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop)

1. Open Customize

Sign in at claude.ai (or open the Claude desktop app) and click Customize in the left sidebar.

2. Add a custom connector

Open the Connectors tab, click + Add (top right) and choose Add custom connector.

3. Enter the Swordfish details

  • Name: Swordfish
  • MCP server URL: https://swordfish.ai/mcp

Click Continue.

4. Keep the detected sign-in settings and click Add

Claude pre-selects the right options: Authentication "Sign in now" and OAuth client "Use Claude's published identity". You do not need to change anything or add request headers. Click Add.

5. Click Connect

The new Swordfish connector shows "You're not connected to Swordfish yet." Click Connect.

6. Sign in with your Swordfish account

You will be sent to swordfish.ai. Sign in as in Part A and click Allow if asked. You will return to Claude automatically. No account yet? Click Signup for free on the sign-in page.

7. Check that it is connected

The connector page shows a Disconnect button and two tools: Account Info (credits and subscription plan) and Search People. You can set each tool to Always allow, Needs approval (the default) or Blocked.

8. Use it in a chat

Start a new chat, click + > Connectors and make sure Swordfish is switched on. Then ask, for example:

  • "Show my Swordfish account info"
  • "Find VPs of Sales at SaaS companies with 51-200 employees in Austin, TX"

Good to know

  • Emails and phone numbers are only added when you ask for contact details. They use credits. On an Unlimited plan, they count toward your fair use limit.
  • To check your credits and plan, ask "Show my Swordfish account info".

Troubleshooting

  • "A connector with this URL already exists in your organization": it is already installed. Close the window, open it from Customize > Connectors > Yours and click Connect.
  • The connector shows "not connected" or tools stop working: open the connector, click Disconnect, then Connect and sign in to swordfish.ai again.
  • The "+ Add" button or "Add custom connector" is missing: on Team and Enterprise plans, an organization owner may need to add the connector first or allow custom connectors.
  • Searches return no contact details: emails and phone numbers are only added when you ask for contact details, and that uses credits.
  • Claude Desktop: connectors you add on claude.ai appear in the desktop app automatically (same account).
